If speed cameras and the funds raised from them were properly managed, and they were properly targeted at dangerous driving, then they would provide massive financial savings due to reduced hospital / medical costs / closed roads etc. and therefore be self funding, so there would be no savings available by shutting them down.

Sadly, the whole speed camera industry has become distorted and corrupted by the income so that they provide no overall savings, financially, or in any other way, and shutting them down, sadly, as the technology has been entirely misused, is finally being accepted as the only way forward, as those with an ounce of common sense have been saying for years.

The Dorset Safety Camera Partnership have done their very best to damage the benefit that could come from automated enforcement on the roads. Over the years, they have clearly been only interested in making the maximum amount of money, without any interest in saving lives.

The ultimate proof of this has been the famous “greed on green” camera on Holes Bay, Poole, which the DSCP have been unable to justify on any grounds, certainly not safety by their own admission, but is set to double their income.

The damage being done to the respect of the police, law and the road safety message has never been so extreme.

It is clear that the current system MUST be terminated, and that those currently responsible, must not take part in any future road safety work.
